How to help your learners revise grammar in a more motivating way!

Scenario:
You have presented the difference between the present simple and the present progressive a dozen times before with your current group of learners.
Guess what’s next in the coursebook...
👹

The difference between these two tenses!
You feel that the learners will definitely benefit from this lesson. They need the revision!
But you also know they would die of boredom and would hate your guts if you went over through the same thing once again, i.e. a typical text-based presentation as shown in the coursebook materials below.

So, let me suggest a way for you to help your learners revise the two tenses in a more motivating manner!
Instead of following the order of activities the coursebook above suggests (which is fine by the way J), you could try doing the exercises the other way round and skip the ones that do not suit your learners’ needs; in other words, you could follow the chart shown below.

This is definitely going to be much more challenging than simply following the coursebook but the learners will greatly appreciate it and will enjoy the lesson.

The challenging part of this lesson is the 'monitoring' phase because:
- you have to listen to the learners carefully yet unobtrusively to check what difficulties they have, e.g. meaning, form, etc.
- you then have to decide on the spot which 'road' to take, i.e. which activities to use, discard, etc.

Hope you put this into practice when you get the chance! Do let me know if it worked for you or if you had any problems so that I can help if I can.

Till next week! 😊
